Headaches are a common health problem for students, adults, and children. They are not usually a sign of a serious illness, but they are common. What causes headaches in the body? The brain tissues and skull bones do not contain pain sensitive nerve fibers. The pain sensitive nerve fibers in the brain’s surface and base are sensitive to pain, so the muscles of the face, neck, throat, scalp, and muscles of the mouthare all sensitive to pain.
These nerve fibers can be stimulated by stress, muscle tension, sleep deprivation, and other factors. The stimulation of the nerve tip sends a message up the length the nerve fiber to Brain. Based on these signals, Brain locates the stimulated nerve tip and we feel the pain. The severity of the headache depends on the cause and the pain bearing capacity. Ayurveda has also explained the causes of headaches. These causes vitiate the doshas vata, pitta, and kapha. Vitiated doshas can cause tension, migraine, sinus, and other head aches.
There are three main types of headaches: tension headache, migraine headache, and sinus headache. Tension headaches can be caused by tightening of the neck and face muscles. It causes a dull ache in the forehead or back of the head, as well as pain in the neck and shoulders that travels to the head.

- Migraine headache occurs when the blood vessels in the head become too dilated or constrictive. This type of headache is more common in females than it is in males. Migraine tends to run in families. Migraine headaches can cause vomiting and make it difficult to see, hear, or do other activities. Few people experience flashes or spots before they get headaches. A few facts, such as caffeine, alcohol, aged cheeses, cured meats, stress, changes in sleeping patterns, strenuous exercise, and menstruation, can trigger migraine headaches.
- Sinus headaches occur when fluids in the nasal are not draining well and pressure builds up. This type of headache can be caused by colds, allergies, or dirty or polluted air travel. Sinus headaches can cause pain in the forehead, cheek bones and nose. The headache is worse if the face is bent or touched.
- Morning headaches are more severe. Although headaches are common, it is important to see a doctor if you have headaches.
Home remedies for tension headache. Massage the temples with a few drops of peppermint oil, or eucalyptus oils to relieve tension headaches. Use a little warm sesame oil to massage the scalp. This will relieve tension headaches and induce sleep.
Regular exercise, yoga, and meditation can reduce stress levels and help to prevent tension headaches. Hot water bags can be used on aching areas by people of vata type. A hot shower will also be helpful. Pitta-type people can use cold or frozen packs on the aching parts, and wrap a cold cloth around their neck.
Home remedies for migraine headache. Keep track of the triggers for migraine headaches and the foods that cause them. These should be avoided. Avoid spicy foods, tea, coffee, tea, alcohol and onions. Avoid citrus fruits except lemon. Muscle relaxation exercises are a good option.
Meditation, yoga, and progressive muscle relaxation are all great options. You should keep to a regular sleeping schedule and get enough sleep, but not too much. Avoid sleeping in the afternoon. If you feel the headache coming on, rest in a dark and quiet place. Apply gentle pressure to the scalp by placing an icepack wrapped in a cloth around your neck.
Sinus headache remedies at home Warm, humid air is best. Use a saline nasal spray to moisten your nasal passages. You can use saline nasal spray up to six times daily. Do not smoke. Stop smoking. Avoid second-hand smoke, and avoid polluted air. Avoid any exposure that can trigger allergy symptoms or trigger sinus symptoms.
To avoid getting a cold, wash your hands often. Get treatment for a persistent sore throat before it becomes severe. Avoid alcohol. The swelling of the sinus and nasal tissues can be caused by alcohol.
