Can Water Treat Heartburn?

Is water a great home remedy for heartburn? Water is a third of the body and can do many amazing things. Water is essential for many functions. It transports nutrients and oxygen to cells, keeps joints and lungs hydrated, regulates body temperature and aids in metabolism and detoxification. The body loses water in many ways.

Dehydration

It is a condition that causes dry skin, dark urine, hunger, excessive thirst and muscle cramps. It can also lead to irregular or erratic blood pressure and headaches. It is vital that the body has enough water to maintain good health. Drink water if you have heartburn. Heartburn is a burning sensation in your chest. This is a sign that acids are corroding your esophagus walls.

This is due to the Lower Esophageal Sphincter becoming weaker so that the stomach contents flow back to your esophagus. The LES is normally strong until it is exposed to excessive smoking, acidic foods, caffeine, and alcoholic drinks. There are other conditions that can make it worse. These include eating more than your stomach can handle, lying down immediately after eating, and not drinking enough water to neutralize or flush the acids from the stomach.

Water

Water can be a natural remedy for heartburn. Do not drink a full glass of water at once. Take a few sips of water when you feel heartburn. Do not swallow a full glass. This prevents your stomach from becoming bloated, which can worsen acid reflux and heartburn.

Take a tablespoon of honey and apple cider vinegar to a glass water and mix it together. Honey is good for digestion because it contains fiber. Apple cider vinegar is good to digest as well as soothing the stomach. When you feel the burning sensation in the chest, bend your knees. This strengthens your LES and keeps it closed or contracted.

Avoid eating spicy or acidic foods, drinking coffee, excessive eating, and sleeping right away after eating. To reduce the amount of food you eat at one time, eat smaller meals. Sleeping with pillows under your head is a good option if you have heartburn at night. Use a sugar-free gum. This stimulates saliva production, which in turn increases enzyme levels in your system to help break down food and facilitate smoother and easier digestion.
