As a woman gets closer to the era of perimenopause, there are lots of health risks which can’t be overlooked. One of these is osteoporosis, and it’s particularly risky now of a woman’s life. Here are the reasons you will need to assess your risk and discover ways to be sure you aren’t a prime candidate for this bone disorder.
Most of us have heard of osteoporosis, but do not understand how dangerous of a disorder it truly is. Osteoporosis is when the bones become porous and lose their strength, sometimes to the extent that a persons own weight may damage the bones. I’m confident you’ve seen elderly men and people who lose height, and sometimes have a “hunched over” look about them.
This is because of real bone loss, and may have fatal consequences for many. Not only are the bones far more fragile and easily broken, but they take much longer to heal also. At this stage in life, a badly broken bone may result in debilitating life changes. It does not have to be that way, however, if you care for your bones. When a man or woman is young, the bones get more and denser annually as you grow.
Up until about age 30, the bones continue to have sexier annually, then they reach their peak. After that it’s a matter of how well you take care of them with nourishment and exercise. The issue can arise for girls when an illness or operation leaves them incapacitated for a moment, or when premature menopause begins to set in. If a woman’s bones never truly reach their whole density before this occurs, she’s at a serious risk of losing more bone mass considerably sooner in life, and that risk will continue into later life also if measures aren’t taken to fix it.
As a woman ages, the procedure where the body repairs and simplifies bones (known as”remodeling”) takes more because of the absence of hormones in the body, which are a significant player in this procedure. When the body becomes less effective at rebuilding bones it takes longer to achieve, so any additional setback like a reduction of calcium or bad diet can inhibit this process even more.
The most important remedy of course, would be to take a calcium supplement with vitamin D daily. This is crucial for all women, but especially pre-menopausal girls, because of their falling levels of estrogen. Why? When estrogen begins to decrease, it means that less calcium has been absorbed into the body. Since estrogen actually helps the body to absorb calcium, when you have less estrogen you’ll have to actually boost the calcium intake – to at least 1,000-1,500 MG each day.
Since calcium is used in different processes within the body, if you do not have enough on your blood the body will really cannibalize it in the bones, so maintaining a steady flow of calcium in your diet is vitally important.
Another way to help keep your muscles stronger would be to boost your normal estrogen levels, by simply taking a natural supplement to boost it, or any other means. Talk with your doctor to be sure that you are getting what you need – this is something that you don’t wish to second guess. Of course exercise is also very important in many ways, and maintaining healthy bones is just one of these. Many nutritionists and doctors advocate some light weight-training for a lady, which helps to keep the bones strong. The bottom line is, take care of your bones and they’ll care for you!
