    What To Know About Headaches?

If you drive, you are likely to suffer from headaches, low back pain, stiffness, and sciatica-type symptoms. I will discuss the following issues in detail. I will also explore the possible causes and treatment options. Are you having a headache right this moment? This issue is for you if you have a headache.

    A Condition

Headaches are a common condition in neuromusculoskeletal disorders. They don’t discriminate between genders and age. Some headaches can be debilitating and affect your ability to function every day. Others are more benign and disappear.

There are many types of headaches. Three common types of headaches are tension, cervicogenic, and migraines.

    Tension headaches

These are the most common. They are usually associated with tight muscles in the neck and upper back. These headaches usually develop slowly and are often associated with stress, anxiety and poor posture. The muscles of the neck and head become “tight”, causing pain. The symptoms include a dull, constant, squeezing sensation, pressure, and achy sensations that are felt on both the forehead and back of the head. These headaches can be severe and persistent and can affect your ability to concentrate and daily activities. These headaches can be treated by relaxing muscle tension.

    Cervicogenic headaches

These are caused by tension in the neck. These headaches are common, but often misdiagnosed because they resemble tension headaches. These headaches can be caused by injuries to the neck joints, muscles, and ligaments. The irritation of nerves that supply the affected area and transmit pain to the head is what causes the pain. The pain is described as dull, achy, but not stabbing.

What are the Most Common of Headaches?

Both tension and cervicogenic headaches can be treated in a similar way. Both types of headaches can be treated by restoring proper neck joint motion. For cervicogenic headaches, it is important that the spine is aligned properly and that the joint function is normal. Although the exact causes of migraine headaches remain unknown, it is believed that they are related to changes in blood flow to and the brain’s coverings. These headaches are second most common and affect women more than men. These headaches can be severe and leave the sufferer incapacitated for hours, days, or even days. Common symptoms include photophobia (light sensitivity), sound sensitivity, nausea, vomiting, and phonophobia.

    Migraines

These can be triggered by food. Particularly chocolate, aged cheeses and nuts, as well as Monosodium Glutamate, red wine, and aged, canned cured, or processed meats. This may restrict your diet but it doesn’t mean you have to stop eating steak and potatoes. The treatment options include medication, diet modification, and chiropractic care. Most headaches are caused by stress to the body.

A headache can be caused by physical and mental stress. These stressors can be eliminated or reduced in most cases to reduce the severity of headaches.

    Did You Know?

Did you know that headaches are the most costly health condition in the workplace? Migraines affect one in six people. A migraine has been reported in 10.6 percent of schoolchildren aged five to 15 years old. These numbers and facts show the prevalence of headaches among the general population. Most headaches can be managed with the right education and care. A headache may be a sign of a more serious problem.

What Kind of Headache am I experiencing?

A severe headache, an old headache that is getting worse or one that has been triggered by trauma to the neck/head, should be taken seriously. To ensure there are not serious underlying conditions, you should consult a doctor.

    Do This!

Think back to the last time you had a headache. What have you eaten? What did you eat? How do they feel (describe). These questions can be answered, and you can keep track of your headaches by writing them down. Your health professionals will be better equipped to diagnose the type and severity of your headaches if you provide as much information as possible.

Most headaches can easily be treated. Chiropractic is just one method to treat headaches. Spinal manipulation, deep massage along with a comprehensive stretching/strengthening program can alleviate many of the symptoms, if not decrease/eliminate your headaches all together.
