For most of my adult life, I have suffered from migraines and headaches. I can recall many miserable days when I didn’t want to go to work or see anyone. Instead, I preferred to lay on my back with an ice pack to reduce the pain. In my teens, I was much more responsible than I am now. I would usually choose to put an ice pack on my head and sleep with it.
Many of you who have experienced migraines know how difficult it is to get on with your life. It is impossible to pretend you feel better when your head feels like a 2×4 stuck in your skull. Multiple changes happened in my life after I got married. One of the most important changes in my life was a significant improvement in my diet. Praise the Lord!
Diet changes have led to fewer headaches and almost zero migraines. Although they are less frequent now, I still get headaches from time-to-time, especially when I am pregnant. I don’t know if it is hormonal or other reasons.
Due to the long-lasting side effects of Advil, I needed another medication to provide immediate relief. This was especially true when I was pregnant with my second child. My first child, who was just 8 months old when we conceived again, needed my attention even though I felt like I couldn’t get my head off of the pillow.
I found something simple, inexpensive, and very effective after much research. It was Peppermint Essential Oil. I rub the oil on my temples and any other areas that are hurting. This oil has saved my life! Its effects are amazing! It gives me a cool sensation similar to an icepack, but it keeps me mobile. I am a mother to two beautiful children. I also help my husband in his business. It is difficult for me to find the time to rest from a headache during my busy work days.
I have found peppermint essential oils to be very helpful. If I have headaches, I will still use an ice pack at night. Peppermint oil is also applied to increase the cooling effect. This gives me a lot of relief, even while I’m asleep, and almost always eliminates my headaches by the next morning. It is best to not use it too often throughout the day.
This would make my skin less sensitive and reduce its effectiveness. I carry a small bottle of peppermint oil everywhere I go. I’ve shared it with many people who have headaches. They have often been amazed and thanked me for providing such a powerful remedy. One warning: Avoid contact with the eyes. When it happened to me, I flushed my eyes with running water until the burning and pain subsided.
A month ago, I was suffering from the flu and fever. I am always willing to do whatever it takes for my health to improve quickly. I started researching fever remedies immediately.

Clove essential oil can work wonders, I learned. I didn’t have any clove oil so I used half a dozen drops peppermint essential oils in a glass water. It quickly brought down my fever and I felt much better the next day. A rash developed on my legs during our recent Florida vacation. There were two patches on my legs, one near my ankle and one on the top of my thighs.
I initially decided to wait for it to clear up, hoping it would. Unfortunately, I’m not good at waiting, especially if it seems like it is getting worse. I tried peppermint essential oils on the rash twice daily or whenever it itched, but it was not near my herbs. Within two days, the rashes disappeared. It was so worth it!
We drink a few drops of peppermint oil mixed with a glass of water whenever we come back from outdoor activities (work, play), and we are extremely hot and dehydrated. It is both refreshing and rejuvenating. It is also a good idea to drink it before going outside on a hot day, or before doing any strenuous exercise to cool down your body. Peppermint essential oils can be used to relieve stomach upsets, acid reflux, and other symptoms. A few drops of peppermint essential oil can be added to hot or cold water. Our favorite use is in ice cream.
My husband loves homemade ice cream made with peppermint essential oils. I add 5 drops to a half-gallon of the icecream mix before freezing it. It makes a wonderful minty treat! Note: Only therapeutic grade peppermint essential oils (such as Young Living brand), are suitable for internal use. People with high blood pressure should be cautious when using peppermint essential oils internally. Peppermint essential oil should not be used internally by children under 6 years of age.
